One who is spiritual may not be religious, just as a religious person may or may not be spiritual. Religious formulas alone clearly do not constitute spirituality and may even negate it. Still, a person can surely be religious and still be spiritual. In fact, incorporating both realities in their most alive form can bring the very highest and best that Spirit has to offer. Without doubt, there is enormous spirituality in the words of God's great Manifestations, from Moses to Christ, from Buddha to Baha'u'llah. How could it not be so? For although it is unlikely that God will speak to you in words, each of the great Prophets was blessed with the ability to hear the voice of Spirit far more clearly than any of us. It was as if They heard the words of Spirit translated into human language. This is why so many consider the teachings of these Masters as infallible because they are about as close to the actual teachings or voice of God as we will ever get. The great Prophets, those Souls that birthed the religions of the world, are as spiritual geniuses who have been named as Spirit's Mouthpieces. These amazing spirit- Beings have God so strongly in Their holiest of hearts as to be fully immersed and submerged in that Reality. Their personalities, their own Beings were so sanctified as to become nearly indistinguishable from the One they called to. Yet the even these great teachers of the faiths said that there were limits to Their words in describing and evoking Spirit, for words can never truly capture the infinite… “Stillness is the language God speaks. Everything else is a bad translation.” – Eckhart Tolle "How great the multitude of truths which the garment of words can never contain!" -- Bahá’u’lláh |
