How many of us were raised to the standards of a rigid “God”
Who is perfect, and Who calls all followers to be perfect. we may have learned very early that we did not and would never measure up; that being part of religion meant being unable to excel at its tenets, or perhaps even to think well of ourselves. that, to me, is not conducive to healthy growth and spirituality. But when I began to find a healthy spirituality, I learned about God or Spirit from people who were not perfect, and who could accept themselves as they are. I learned about mercy and forgiveness from people with different beliefs than my own; I learned about trusting in Something Bigger than myself from people who did not even believe in a Supreme Being. What I learned has put life into my faith and it has helped me learn that I am worthwhile and acceptable just as I am. Today I can give my life into the keeping of the Spirit or God of my understanding, and know that my best is the least, and the most, that He, She or It expects from me.
